GVANIM!!

Gvanim 2012

Have you heard about Gvanim yet??  I’m finally involved in running a camp!  BE THERE!

It will be Labor Day Weekend, August 31st-September 3, 2012.  It will be at Camp Starlight, just two and a half hours from NYC, in Starlight, PA.  And… it will be AWESOME!

Featuring: YORAM SASSON, a charismatic markid whose sessions feature the newest hits as well as the great classics, SHMULIK GOV-ARI, the master whose dances speak for themselves, ILAN SWISSA, a rising star from the north of Israel, introduced at his American dance camp début, EYAL ELIYAHU, “Lord of the Line Dances”, whose knowledge of dances, both current and old, is amazing, and MAOR BEN-AMI, a young markid from South Florida, charming and fun to dance with.

Offering an exciting and innovative program, including daily sessions with our teachers, specialty workshops, evening dance parties driven by your requests, special parties, great food and snacks, plus programs for children; both regular camp program and dance activities.

Gvanim is run by a group of dedicated volunteers; Ilana Vichness, Ruth Goodman, Mona Atkinson, Alexis Maharam, Erica Goldman, Irith Shemesh, Diane Lallouz, and Eveline Hochstein, representing many of our dance communities throughout the country, on behalf of Gabi Gabay of the 92nd Street Y in NY, who had planned the camp, but was then diagnosed with leukemia. All proceeds from the camp will go to Gabi Gabay.

About Erica

Erica Goldman began Israeli dancing in New York as a child alongside her father, another folk dance fanatic. After many years performing with several New England area Israeli dance troupes, she branched out into other kinds of folk dance as a member of the Mandala Folkdance Ensemble and then the Collage Dance Ensemble, with whom she competed at the Golden Karagöz Folk Dance Competition in Turkey in 2003. In 2004, Erica spent the summer as the Dance Director of Camp Alonim (at the then Brandeis-Bardin Institute), a Jewish overnight camp where Israeli dancing is truly an obsession among the campers. She was hooked; after working for nearly eight years for a software company in Boston, she quit her job and moved to L.A. and has been teaching Israeli dance nearly full-time ever since, both in the US and abroad. Erica was the Israeli dance teacher at New Community Jewish High School in Los Angeles and also coordinated their Israel exchange programs with three high schools in Tel Aviv until 2014 when she returned to the East Coast for grad school. A grateful Wexner Fellow, Erica earned her MBA from the Heller School and her MA in the Hornstein Program for Jewish Professional Leadership at Brandeis University, and now is Director of Program and Operations at JPRO Network. She lives in Brooklyn, NY.
