Yesh Lanu Tayish

Yesh Lanu Tayish means “We have a goat” and is a very fun easy partner dance to do with groups of all sizes and ages anywhere from 7-170! (In fact this is a very famous old dance format, a component of the Virginia Reel.)

If you have a large group, I recommend teaching it in one very long line but then breaking it up into smaller lines before dancing to the music, so everyone can learn the mechanism together but have time to complete the figure before the repeat.

You can stream or download the song here. Here it is in action at Cornerstone 2026!

If you want to learn how to teach this dance, check out the video below. It’s in Hebrew, but I don’t think that matters for understanding! Here, for the “yesh, yesh, yeshyeshyesh” part, the dancers hold hands and bounce their arms; I teach that part as clapping and jumping in place and then clapping and jumping backward, to clear the aisle for the head couple to slide down. Obviously ignore the gendered lines; we don’t do that anymore!

Remember that ONLY the head couple (leaders) make the arch; everyone else goes through and fills in the line on the other side of them, to await the next chorus and new leaders!

There are lots of videos of this dance out there if you want to search for more!
